Best practices for drug testing in the workplace:

    • Make sure your City has a policy in place before any employee is drug tested

    • Review “safety-sensitive” positions – Update job descriptions to ensure safety-sensitive duties and responsibilities are clearly specified

    • Do NOT put employees in the random pool that are not safety-sensitive

    • Do NOT ask to see an employee’s medical marijuana license

    • Use a reputable testing facility

    • Keep matters confidential (need to know basis)
